Besides, it describes the most productive morphemes in the system of significant parts of the speech of the English language. The study shows that the borrowed affixes, forming new words, are combined into semantic classes, based on a certain similarities and differences. Such classes are characterized by semantic features, manifested in certain features and characteristics. New words are different from any other word within the totality of certain semantic features. Affixation is considered as the process of formation of new words, in which each part will carry a certain semantic load. The article analyzes the ways of forming new words, as a kind of affixation (suffixation and prefixation) using the example of the following suffixes -ify, -ate, -ize, -tion, -dom and prefixes inter- , multi-, ad-, circus-, contra-, de -, dis-.</p></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The article deals with semantic classes of borrowed Latin affixes in English.
