Its distinguishing feature was the development of previous experience in the use of the German language, the expansion of the boundaries of its application in book culture and in discursive practices. These processes found a peculiar refraction in the development of individual genres of texts and in the nature of their interaction. The subject of the study is the formation of early novel prose in German, its origins, incentives and directions of development, interaction with public discourses of its time, in which there are various kinds of typical ideas about good and evil, cheerful and boring, virtuous and vicious. The connection of early novel literature with mass literature of small formats, and primarily with the Schwank genre, which had a recreational purpose in the XVI century: served as a way to switch the reader from a dull daily routine, a state of melancholy and depression into the world of entertaining stories about unlucky characters.</p>
<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; The article verifies the existence of a specific sociocultural situation in German literature of the second half of the 16th century from the standpoint of modern linguistic genre studies.
