In the context of linguistic and cultural analysis of the background of the King James Bible phenomenon which had a significant influence on the formation of the linguistic worldview of the English people, the author raises the problem of identifying some lexical, grammatical, spelling, syntax, and stylistic peculiarities of the English language used in translation of the King James Version. Analyzing the English text of the Gospel according to St. Matthew and using a wealth of material, the author demonstrates the above-mentioned peculiarities (the use of archaisms, inversion, special construction of negative and interrogative sentences, ‘over-stopped’ punctuation and others). In some cases the author compares certain parts of the text with the same parts in the Greek and Russian Synodal translations and reveals their theological implication. The study confirms the spiritual closeness of the English text of the King James Version and the Russian Synodal Bible text, which allows using the King James Version in Orthodox Liturgical services in English abroad. The author draws a conclusion about the harmonious synthesis of scientific and theological approaches in the translation of the King James Bible.
