ELIMINATING LACUNAS WHEN TRANSLATING LITERARY TEXTS (A CASE STUDY OF THE NOVEL BY ROBERT IRWIN "THE ARABIAN NIGHTMARE")
The article is devoted to consideration of the mental gaps arising on a joint of different languages and cultures that interferes with a successful completion of the act of communication in general, and in the text in particular. In addition, the article directly involves the study of the problem of lacunas in the works of Russian and foreign researchers. Besides, it involves the problem of identification of fundamental ways of elimination of the lacunas which are successfully conveying meaning of the text. The material of the study was the postmodern novel of Robert Irwin "The Arabian Nightmare" containing a huge number of lacunas veiled in the text, where the analysis of these mental gaps was carried out on the basis of a context, and also the search of their seme structure in dictionaries was performed. As a result, we have revealed a certain quantity of the "double lacunas" uniting the Arab word and introduced by the author during the English language period – the word which, as a result, was also just retranslated into Russian. The main objective of the work was a search of new ways of adaptation of lexical gaps in the target text of the novel of Robert Irvin "The Arabian nightmare".
