EXPLICIT AND IMPLICIT RECIPIENT INFLUENCE: THE ROLE OF EPITHETS IN SHAPING AN IMPRESSION OF AN OBJECT IN QUESTION

The article deals with the role of figures of speech enabling readers to shape evaluative judgements of the objects described, based on the written data. Lexical units are emotionally neutral in some genres, thus the conclusions shall only be made by the reader, based on the facts listed in the text. In case of other written sources, the positive or negative connotation of some characteristics may vary in different cultures, which is to be taken into account before a judgement is made.
